Alas! What Happened to Us
By Kawsar Ahamed
Alas! What happened to us? Once pure and bright,
Where love once thrived, and hearts held tight.
Now cheating’s common, loyalty’s rare;
Extramarital affairs don’t seem to care.
Friendships once strong now wither away,
Childhood bonds lost, we drift and stray.
Careers haunt our thoughts, yet no study’s in sight,
Books left unsold, readers fading from light.
Can you imagine a world where sex is free,
But love’s now a luxury, hard to see?
Losing your phone hurts more than pride,
While virginity’s loss is brushed aside.
Modernization means nudity, profane,
Pregnant women exposed, no sense of shame.
If you don’t drink or smoke, you’re out of the race,
And boys stay boys, refusing life’s pace.
Girls forced to lead, take on the role,
While they wonder why good men aren’t whole.
Cheating’s called love, gyms are selfie stages,
Pizza’s quicker than the police’s pages.
Once, family dinners brought joy and care,
Now phones distract, no moments to share.
Sincerity lost, replaced by a mask,
Honesty’s faded, a forgotten task.
School’s a place where studies don’t last,
Skipping classes, life moving too fast.
Jobs are scarce, and dreams fade away,
Social media rules, keeping thoughts at bay.
Online validation becomes the goal,
Leaving behind our very soul.
Alas! What happened to us today?
We’ve lost our way, our dreams decay.
Night brings no rest, and days pass in vain,
The joy of life now shadowed by pain.
